In the previous article I showed you how you can create a Facebook strategy in a few simple steps. All you had to do was come up with a weekly schedule for your posts.
Now, I am sure everything will go just fine for the first couple of months. But you will eventually run out of ideas, so what happens then? How do you come up with more Facebook status ideas?
Here is my personal list of inspiration (I use it every time I feel my brain refuses to cooperate):
1. Ask Questions
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Your audience are willing to answer if you know how to address those questions.
One important thing you must never do is ask questions about your field of expertise and sound as if you have no idea what the answer is.
For example, if you are running an online bike store, DON’T ask your audience:
- “Does anyone know how much Bike X should cost? I found it online at $Y, but I’m not sure it’s the correct value”
or
- “Do you have any idea if ABC brakes work on XYZ bike?”
These questions are big no-no’s.
Polls
Polls are great Facebook status ideas because they require interaction from your audience. Following the above mentioned example, you could ask your followers questions such as:
- “What do you think the new bike we just brought in store costs?” – and give them 3-4 options to choose from.
- “Quick test: Do ABC brakes work on XYZ bike? Use the poll below to vote and add your comments in the comment section 🙂 “ – add two answer options: “Yes (comment why)” and “No (comment why)”. People will rush in to tell you their answers.
See? A simple twist of words and the tone is completely different.
Yes/No
Speaking of Yes and No, great Facebook status ideas are asking simple questions which have simple answers. Yes/No questions are quick and they do not take a long time to write. Thus, you can get lots of interaction from people and your posts can go viral.
A good example for this is the following famous image, accompanied by the simple question, “Do you agree?”:
2. Share pictures
Pics and visual content in general are the hardcore part of good Facebook status ideas. Make sure that the majority of your posts have a visual element.

If you share these posts on a weekly basis, in time you will have an amazing collection of quotes which people can see on your profile.
If we were to use the example with the online bike store, a good idea would be to share pictures of famous cyclists.
Or, if you want more Facebook status ideas with pictures, you could keep track of the world’s most important bike contests; like the Tour of France. Going a step further would mean that you can organise a bike contest yourself. You can take pics during the contest and share them with your audience.
There are so many Facebook status ideas you could implement with pictures…!
3. Share interesting articles written by other experts
One important thing you must never forget is that you are not the only expert in your field. Other people are also talking about topics which you have expertise in. If you find well written and well documented pieces of information which were written by someone else, you can share them with your audience.
The best Facebook status ideas are brought to life the moment you learn to think outside the box. This means you can and should give credit to those who deserve it.
Online, you will be much appreciated by both your followers and by other experts if you recommend their work.
But there is a catch with this practice: while you should share others’ work and findings, make sure it does not shadow your own contribution.
4. Write personal posts
Online, you have to be personal. Whether you are a one-man business or a multi-billion company, one of the best Facebook status ideas is to share personal stuff.
For example, if you are a big company with lots of employees, you can have the “Employee of the Week” section. During an entire week you share interesting things about your employee, like their likes and dislikes, a picture of them while kids, photos from places they visited, and so on.
