These guys are tough when it comes to the Facebook advertising guidelines. I mean, you cannot joke with one of the world’s leading online companies, because you are going to pay a peppered price for it. Starting with your official profile being deleted one bright day and ending with (perhaps a trial?), there is nothing good that can come out of you not complying with the Facebook advertising guidelines.
It’s serious. I’m serious. No time for laughing or joking here, because it is your business image that you are denigrating by cheating the game.
Do you know how to comply with Facebook’s advertising guidelines? If you don’t quite know how to answer to this question, here are 4 things you need to know before making your first attempt at promoting your business through Facebook:
1. Start small
Don’t spend too much if you don’t have experience. It is not that you are losing money, but that you might do something wrong without knowing what it is. My advice: do your homework first.
Try to find a training or course to see how it’s done. This point is based on what I ‘preached’ in the first point of this list – do your homework before you do something wrong.

2. Make sure you know your target market
You need to know them like the palm of your hand. Things like their location, age, sex, religion, likes and dislikes, hobbies, marital status – whatever is of interest to your business, you need to know it.
3. Use a genuine, attractive picture.
When I’m browsing on Facebook and an ad catches my eye, usually the first thing I see is the picture. Only after that do I read the text. So think about a picture that would be interesting for your audience but that also complies with the Facebook advertising guidelines.
Short of ideas? Here are some that work:
- Use bright, colorful pictures
- Try pictures that have a string message
- Add pictures that show happy and beautiful people
In any case, you’ll never know exactly what works for you until you run some tests.
Special Bonus tip for you:
Create 3 ads and see which one performs best; delete the weakest (it’s the law of the jungle applied in social media! only the strongest will survive, babe!). Always make sure they comply with the Facebook Advertising Guidelines Then create another ad variation so as you have 3 ad variations running at the same time. After some testing, delete the weakest one again but always keep 3 good ones to promote your offer.
